Description:

UD’s internationally recognized faculty violinist Xiang Gao will perform on the UD 1794 Ceruti violin and direct this multimedia concert event as an opening ceremony for the Energy & Sustainability Conference 2011. Based on the material of iMusic 3-Ode to Earth Xiang Gao created and performed to celebrate Earth Day in 2010, this event will feature similar repertoire with newly arranged music and revised multimedia effects. If you missed the iMusic 3 concert in 2010, this is your last opportunity to hear and see Xiang Gao’s acclaimed creation and his live performance with collaborating artists from many parts of the world right here on campus. If you enjoyed that concert, come see the new version of the multimedia concert production that will take your breath away.

Prof. Gao will perform selections from Beethoven’s Spring Sonata, Vivaldi’s Four Seasons (violin concerto), Bach’s solo sonatas and partitas, Tango music by Astor Piazzolla, Sunshine over the Tashikuergan Prairie by Chinese composer Gang Chen, Dvorak’s Romance in F minor among other master pieces.

Recognized as one of the world's most successful violinist soloists from China, Xiang Gao is cited by the New York Times as "a rare and soulful virtuoso". He has performed for many world leaders, his musical integrity and virtuoso technique have gained accolades from audiences and reviewers around the world. Recently, the Stradivari Society in Chicago selected Mr. Gao to be a recipient of a Stradivarius violin for his international concerts. Mr. Gao lives in Newark, Delaware, where he is the youngest Professor of Music at the University of Delaware and the Artistic Director of the Master Players Concert Series on campus.
